拯溺（蒸字上聲蒸境反隸書俗用字也說文正體從手升聲也或從登作橙說文上舉也杜預云救助也方言拔出溺也廣雅枡收也從手丞聲也）。

Rescuing the drowning (拯溺: the character 拯 is in the rising tone, zhēng-jìng fan [zhěng]. It is a vulgar character used in clerical script. The orthodox form in the Shuowen takes shǒu [hand] as radical and shēng as phonetic. It is also written with dēng as 橙. The Shuowen says: "To lift upward." Du Yu says: "To save and assist." The Fangyan says: "To pull out from drowning." The Guangya says: "To scoop up and gather." It takes shǒu [hand] as radical and chéng as phonetic).
