The svastika mark (卍字之文: in Sanskrit it is called śrīvatsa (室哩 [two characters combined], 末蹉, [蹉 is pronounced] cāng-hé fan). In the Tang language, it means "mark of auspiciousness." To call it the character "wàn" (ten thousand) is an erroneous theory. The eighth fascicle of the Avataṃsaka-sūtra explains this sign in full detail; it is not a Chinese character at all, but rather this auspicious pattern found in several places on the body of the Tathāgata, a sign of great merit and virtue).
