抓掌（側狡反下章養反手也說文作爪經從手作抓側交反非也指端為爪指下為掌說文掌字作爪反爪曰爪也）。

抓掌 (claw and palm): The upper [character] is *zhǎo* (側狡反 [tsˠaǔ]); the lower is *zhǎng* (章養反 [t͡ɕɨɐŋ̌]), meaning "hand". The *Shuowen* writes it as 爪. The sūtra text writes it with the hand radical as 抓 (*zhāo*, 側交反 [t͡ʃˠau]), which is incorrect. The tip of a finger is a "claw" (爪); below the fingers is the "palm" (掌). In the *Shuowen*, the character 掌 has the fanqie 爪 (i.e. reversed 爪 is 爪).
