純[泳-永+(外-?+?)]（上常倫反或作淳賈逵注國語純專也方言純好也顧野王云美也孔注尚書云純一之行也說文從系音覓屯追倫反聲也下時陸反俗用字也正體作淑毛詩傳淑善也說文清湛也字書淑順也）。

純[泳-永+(外-?+?)] (the first character is cháng-lún [fanqie: 常倫反], or written as 淳; Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says 純 means single-minded; Fangyan says 純 means good; Gu Yewang says beautiful; Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says it is pure and unified conduct; Shuowen jiezi says it has 系 as radical, pronounced mì, and 屯 [sound zhuī-lún] as phonetic. The second character is shí-lù [fanqie: 時陸反], a popular character; the standard form is 淑; the Mao commentary on the Shijing says 淑 means good; Shuowen jiezi says pure and deep; dictionaries say 淑 means compliant).
