鞭杖（補綿反玉篇云用革以朴罪人也考聲擊也說文驅遲也從革便聲也廣雅鞭堅也古文作𣁁會意字也）。

鞭杖 (Whips and rods: [鞭 has] the fanqie 補綿 [biān]. The Yupian says: “Using leather to flog criminals.” The Kaosheng says: “To strike.” The Shuowen says: “To urge on slowly.” It is composed of the semantic 革 and the phonetic 便. The Guangya says: “鞭 means hard.” The ancient script writes it 𣁁, which is an ideogram.)
