驚愕（五各反俗字也或作咢驚也或作諤訟譁也從心咢聲說文愕字從吅從[前-刖+(┴*├)]吅音喧[前-刖+(┴*├)]音戟經從亐俗字訛也）。

Astonished and startled (驚愕: 愕 is 五 + 各 fanqie; it is a popular form. It is also written 咢, meaning startled; or written 諤, meaning litigious noise; it takes 'heart' (心) as semantic and 咢 as phonetic. In the Shuowen, the character 愕 takes 吅 and [前-刖+(┴*├)]; 吅 is pronounced 喧, and [前-刖+(┴*├)] is pronounced 戟. In the sūtra it is written with 亐, which is an erroneous popular form).
