譏刺（上居宜反廣雅譏諫也問也鄭注禮記呵察也說文誹也從言幾聲下此恣反毛詩傳曰刺責也韓詩刺非也廣雅刺惌也書也釋名云書姓名於奏上曰刺書說文云君殺大夫曰刺從刀朿聲也束音與刺同字書云朿木芒也銛銳也俗作㓨訛也）。

Satirizing and piercing (譏刺: the first character is 居 + 宜 fanqie; the Guangya says: "譏 means to admonish; to interrogate." Zheng's commentary on the Liji says: "To scold and scrutinize." The Shuowen says: "To slander; it takes 'speech' (言) as semantic and 幾 as phonetic." The second character is 此 + 恣 fanqie; the Mao commentary on the Shijing says: "刺 means to reproach." The Han commentary says: "刺 means to fault." The Guangya says: "刺 means to harbor resentment; to write." The Shiming says: "Writing one's name on a memorial is called a cishu (刺書, calling card)." The Shuowen says: "A ruler putting a grand master to death is called 刺; it takes 'knife' (刀) as semantic and 朿 as phonetic." 束 has the same sound as 刺. Dictionaries say: "朿 means the thorn of a plant; sharp." The popular form 㓨 is an error).
