嘷叫（上胡高反左傳豺狼嘷也考聲獸鳴也說文噑咆也從口臯音高聲下驍曜反韻英云大呼也從口[┴*├]經由反聲也從刁者誤也）。

嘷叫 (Howling and crying out: the first [hao has] the fanqie 胡高; the Zuozhuan says: 'Jackals and wolves howl.' The Kaosheng says: 'The cry of beasts.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Hao means roaring.' It is formed with the mouth radical 口 and gao 臯, pronounced gao 高, as phonetic. The second [jiao has] the fanqie 驍曜; the Yunying says: 'To cry out loudly.' It is formed with the mouth radical 口 and [┴*├], pronounced with the fanqie 經由, as phonetic; writing it with diao 刁 is an error).
