舊鼈（卑滅反水蟲名也說文從黽音猛敝聲也經中多從魚或從黽作鱉鼈皆非也）。

Old softshell turtle (舊鼈: [the character 鼈 (softshell turtle)] is 卑 [bei] + 滅 [mie] [biē]; the name of an aquatic creature. The Shuowen jiezi says it is composed of 黽 (pronounced 猛 [měng]) with 敝 as phonetic. In sūtras it is frequently written with the fish radical (魚) or with 黽 as 鱉 or 鼈, both of which are incorrect).
