貓伺（卯包反本音苗獸名也考聲云大蟲之淺毛者曰虥貓也形狀大小一似人家所養貓今捕鼠者也說文從𭶮從苗今經文從犬作猫俗字也𭶮音雉）。

貓伺 [a cat watching for prey] (The first character is 卯 + 包 [máo], its original sound being 苗 [miáo]. The name of a beast. The Kaosheng says: "A tiger with shallow fur is called zhanmao [wildcat]. In size and appearance it is entirely like the domestic cat kept by households today to catch mice." The Shuowen says it is composed of 𭶮 with 苗 phonetic. In the current sūtra text it is written with 犬 as 猫, which is a vulgar character. 𭶮 has the sound 雉 [zhì]).
