掉戲（上亭曜反廣雅掉振也語搖也說文從手卓省聲也下希義反毛詩云戲逸豫也尒雅戲謔也說文從戈䖒也聲也䖒音希從虍從豆經文從虛從戈作戱非也虍音呼也）。

掉戲 (The upper character is pronounced diao4 [ting-yao fan]. The Guangya says: '掉 means to shake.' In colloquial speech, it means to rock/sway. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Formed from "hand" (手) with an abbreviation of 卓 as phonetic.' The lower character is pronounced xi4 [xi-yi fan]. The Mao Commentary on the Book of Odes says: '戲 means leisurely recreation.' The Erya says: '戲 means playful banter.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Formed from "dagger-axe" (戈) with 䖒 as phonetic.' 䖒 is pronounced xi1, formed from 虍 and 豆. The sūtra text writes 戱 with 虛 and 戈, which is incorrect. 虍 is pronounced hu1).
