欄楯（上勒單反下音順說文云欄檻也縱曰欄橫曰楯楯間子曰櫺俗謂之鉤欄楯字從木盾聲盾音順從𠂆十目也）。

Railing (欄楯; upper [character] *le* + *dan* fanqie, lower pronounced *shùn*. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: "Latticework railings. The vertical ones are called *lan*, the horizontal ones are called *shun*. The balusters between railings are called *ling*; in vulgar parlance they are called *goulan*." The character *shun* 楯 takes the *mù* (wood) radical with *dùn* (shield) as the phonetic. The character *dùn* 盾 is pronounced *shùn*, derived from the *hàn* 𠂆 and *shí* 十 radicals with *mù* (eye)).
