艶美（閻漸反俗字也考聲云體冶而皃美好而長也正體從盇作𧰚經文從色作艷俗用非正字冶音野盇音酣[臘-月+骨]反說文盇字從大從血今俗用通從去從皿失之遠矣下美字說文美甘也從大從羊羊進膳也與善同也）。

Gorgeous and beautiful (艶美: [艶 is] y[án]-jiàn [fǎn], a vulgar character. The Kaosheng says: "A seductive physique and charming countenance, both beautiful and tall." The standard form takes hé (盇) as 𧰚. The sūtra text written with the color radical (色) as 艷 is in vulgar use and not the standard character. 冶 is pronounced yě. 盇 is pronounced h[ān]-[臘-月+骨] [fǎn]. The Shuowen says: "The character 盇 takes dà (大) and xuè (血)." Modern vulgar usage universally takes qù (去) and mǐn (皿), which is far off the mark. The lower character měi (美): the Shuowen says: "美 means sweet." It takes dà (大) and yáng (羊); sheep are presented for meals, being synonymous with good (善)).
