嫡婦（丁歷反考聲云嫡正長也君也字書云正氶也說文孎也從女啇聲也啇字從帝從口作啻孎音丁角反孎謹孎也）。

Principal wife (嫡婦: [嫡 is] d[īng]-lì [fǎn]; the Kaosheng says: "嫡 means principal and elder; a ruler." The dictionaries say: "Lawful successor." The Shuowen says: "Cautious and respectful (孎)." It takes the female radical (女) and dī (啇) phonetic. The character 啇 takes dì (帝) and kǒu (口), forming chì (啻). 孎 is pronounced d[īng]-jiǎo [fǎn]; 孎 means circumspect).
