窴噎（上音田下煙結反經文從土作填或從因作咽二字並非皆錯用也說文窴塞也從穴真聲也噎說文云飯窒也音珍栗反考聲云氣塞胸喉從口壹聲或從食作饐亦同也）。

Blocked and choked (窴噎: the upper character is pronounced tián; the lower character is y[ān]-jié [fǎn]. The sūtra text written with the earth radical as 填 or with yīn (因) as 咽 are both incorrect, being mistaken usages. The Shuowen says: "窴 means obstructed." It takes the cave radical (穴) and zhēn (真) phonetic. Regarding yē (噎), the Shuowen says: "Food choking the throat;" it is pronounced zh[ēn]-lì [fǎn]. The Kaosheng says: "Breath choked in the chest and throat." It takes the mouth radical (口) and yī (壹) phonetic; sometimes written with the food radical (食) as 饐, which is the same).
