Passes and patrols (關邏: the first character has the fanqie g- + [w]an [=guān]; Zheng's commentary to the Rites of Zhou says: 'A guān (關) is a gateway on a border'; the Shuowen says: 'Using wood horizontally to bar a door'; the Guangya says: 'A guān is a pass or barrier'; it is formed with 'door' [門] and wān [𢇇] as phonetic; wān [𢇇] has the same pronunciation as above; the sūtra writes it with biàn [弁] as 閞, which is incorrect. The second character has the fanqie l- + [t]uo [=luó]; character books say: 'Luó (邏) means to intercept'; the Yunlüe says: 'Roving soldiers patrolling against bandits in strategic defiles and garrison posts').
