Clamour and clamorous uproar (讙嚻; the first character is [pronounced with the] fanqie xiāng + [yu]án. It has already been explained in full in the sounds and meanings for the Mahāprajñāpāramitā[-sūtra]; it is also written as 誼. The scriptural text writes it with kǒu ‘mouth’ as 喧, which is a vulgar character. The second character is [pronounced with the] fanqie xiāng + [y]āo. The commentary to the Mao Poetry says: “Xiāoxiāo is a sound; an appearance of many people.” The Guangya says: “Xiāoxiāo describes appearance.” The Shuowen says: “A vessel with protruding heads. It takes xié as semantic classifier and jí as phonetic.” Jí is [pronounced with the] fanqie zhuāng + [l]ì. In ancient script it was written with xuān as 𲂭).
