恥媿（鬼位反杜注左傳云媿慙也博雅媿亦耻也說文從女鬼聲經從心作愧亦通用或作聭亦作謉並非也）。

Shame and remorse (恥媿; [the second character is pronounced with the] fanqie guǐ + [w]èi. Du's commentary to the Zuozhuan says: “Kuì means to feel ashamed.” The Boya says: “Kuì also means shame.” The Shuowen says: “It takes nǚ ‘woman’ as semantic classifier and guǐ as phonetic.” The scripture's writing with the heart classifier xīn as 愧 is also interchangeable; writing it as 聭 or 謉 is entirely erroneous).
