Prison (囹圄: the first character has the fanqie l[ì] + [d]īng; the second character has the fanqie y[ú] + [j]ǔ; names for prison. The Zhouli states that prisons first existed under the Three Kings. The Shiming says: "Ling (囹) means to manage (ling 領); yu (圄) means to restrain (yu 禦)"; meaning to register prisoners and hold them in custody. The Shuowen says: "Ling means prison; yu means to guard it." Both are characters with an outer semantic frame and inner phonetic element).
