撿問（上劒儼反廣雅撿驗也蒼頡篇撿法度也意取依教問罪使合法度也爾雅撿同也郭注云摸範同等說文從手僉聲）。

Interrogate and examine (撿問: the first [character] is jian-yan fan; the Guangya says: "撿 means to verify." The Cangjie pian says: "撿 means rules and regulations." The intended meaning is to examine the guilt according to the teachings, ensuring conformity with the rules. The Erya says: "撿 means identical;" Guo [Pu]'s commentary says: "To model and equalize." The Shuowen jiezi says it derives from radical 'hand' [手] with 僉 as phonetic).
