號訽（上号高反爾雅號鳴也考聲大哭也痛聲也說文大呼也從虎号聲經作號謬也下吼遘反杜注左傳云訽罵也或誤為吼呴吽拘四字亦通皆上聲字音呼苟反案諸字書並訓為號鳴也經意亦苞二義訽罵亦不妨宜從訽字義正也）。

Wailing and reviling (號訽: the first [character] is hao-gao fan; the Erya says: "號 means to cry out." The Kaosheng says: "To weep loudly; a voice of grief." The Shuowen jiezi says: "To shout loudly; derived from radical 'tiger' [虎] with 号 as phonetic." In the sūtra it is written as 號, which is incorrect. The second [character] is hou-gou fan; Du [Yu]'s commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "訽 means to scold." Sometimes it is mistakenly written as 吼, 呴, 吽, or 拘, which are all four interchangeable, all pronounced in the rising tone as hu-gou fan. We note: all the character books gloss it as wailing and shouting; the sūtra's meaning also encompasses both senses, and reviling and scolding is also unobjectionable; following the character 訽 gives the correct meaning).
