沉輪(上長林反毛詩傳曰沉沒也字書沒水曰沉說文濁也梵文具含兩義沉取沒義輪取轉義故下經文云輪轉五趣沒生死河是其義也故輪字從車也)。

沉輪 [Sinking and wheeling / Cakravartin wheel]: The first character is read with the fanqie 長 [ch-] + 林 [-in] (chén). The Mao Commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: '沉 means to sink.' Dictionaries say: 'To sink in water is called 沉.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Turbid.' In the Sanskrit, it contains both meanings: '沉' takes the meaning of sinking, while '輪' takes the meaning of turning. Hence, the scripture below says: 'Wheel and turn through the five destinies, sinking in the river of birth and death'—this is its meaning. Therefore the character 輪 is formed with 'cart' (車).
