酬抗（上壽劉反或作讎訓義多通同郭璞曰此酬通謂相報答不唯主於飲酒也杜注左傳酬對也爾雅云匹也從酉州聲讎會意字也下苦浪反杜注左傳抗敵也當也子夏曰抗極也集訓云禦也賈注國語云救也說文杆也從手亢聲經從人作伉亦通也）。

酬抗 (The upper character has the fanqie sh- + l- [shóu]. It is also written as 讎, with mostly identical meanings. Guo Pu says: 'This 酬 [recompense/respond] generally means to repay one another; it does not solely pertain to drinking wine.' Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan states: '酬 means to respond.' The Erya states: 'It means a match [匹].' It takes radical 酉 with 州 as phonetic; 讎 is an ideographic compound character. The lower character has the fanqie k- + l- [kàng]. Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan states: '抗 means to resist [敵]; to match [當].' Zixia says: '抗 means to reach the limit [極].' The Jixun states: 'It means to defend against [禦].' Jia's commentary on the Guoyu states: 'It means to rescue [救].' The Shuowen jiezi states: 'It means a shield or to ward off [杆]. It takes radical 手 with 亢 as phonetic.' In the sūtra text it is written with radical 人 as 伉, which is also acceptable).
