Restrained and bound (the upper character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 錦 + 儼. The Shiming says: 'Jian means to restrict.' The lower character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 經 + 曳. Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli says: 'Xi means joined and tied.' It takes the silk radical, being a phono-semantic character).
