諛諂（上庾朱反莊子云不擇是非而言謂之諛蒼頡篇云諂從人意也孔注尚書云諛亦諂也從言臾聲經作諭非也下丑染反易曰君子上交不諂下交不嬻何休曰諂佞也鄭注禮記云諂謂傾身以有下也莊子希意道言謂之諂此時用隸書從略篆文正體從閻作讇今從略）。

諛諂 (the upper character has the fanqie 庾朱. The Zhuangzi says: 'Speaking without distinguishing right from wrong is called 諛 (flattery).' The Cangjie pian says: '諂 means complying with others' desires.' Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: '諛 also means flattery.' It is formed from [the semantic component] 言 (speech) and 臾 as the phonetic component; the sūtra writes 諭, which is incorrect. The lower character has the fanqie 丑染. The Yijing says: 'The noble person interacts with superiors without flattery, and interacts with inferiors without disrespect.' He Xiu says: '諂 means specious flattery.' Zheng's commentary on the Liji says: '諂 refers to debasing oneself to accommodate those above.' The Zhuangzi says: 'Speaking in accordance with someone's wishes is called 諂.' At that time clerical script was used and abbreviated forms were adopted; the standard seal script form is written with 閻 as 讇; now the abbreviated form is followed).
