寤寑（上音悟蒼頡篇云寑覺而有言曰寤覺音教說文從㝱省吾聲也下侵審反廣雅寢幽也說文寢臥也篆文從帚從又今順俗從省略從宀侵聲也㝱音夢也）。

Waking and sleeping (寤寑: the upper character is pronounced wu. The Cang Jie pian says: when one awakens from sleep and can speak, it is called waking (寤); 'awakening' (覺) is pronounced jiao. The Shuowen jiezi says: it takes the 㝱 abbreviative signific and wu phonetic. The lower character is qin + shen fan. The Guangya says: 寝 means hidden/dark. The Shuowen jiezi says: 寢 means to lie down and sleep. In seal script it takes the broom (帚) and hand (又) significs. Nowadays, following popular usage, it is simplified to take the roof (宀) signific and qin phonetic. 㝱 is pronounced meng).
