[敲-高+魚]獵（上音魚聲類云捕魚也正作[敲-高+(虎-儿+魚)]從攴魚聲經文從水作漁水名也在漁陽非[敲-高+魚]獵字也下廉葉反考聲犬逐獸也爾雅獵虐也取也今通謂畋狩為獵說文從犬巤聲也巤音同上也）。

[敲-高+魚]獵 (The upper character is pronounced 魚 [*yú*]. The *Shenglei* says: 'To catch fish.' It is properly written [敲-高+(虎-儿+魚)], taking the semantic classifier 攴 and 魚 as phonetic component. In the sūtra text it is written with 水 as 漁, which is the name of a river located in Yuyang, not the character for fishing and hunting. The lower character is pronounced 廉 + 葉 [*liè*]. The *Kaosheng* says: 'Dogs pursuing beasts.' The *Erya* says: '獵 means to treat cruelly; to seize.' Nowadays, hunting in the field is generally called 獵. The *Shuowen* says: 'Takes the semantic classifier 犬 and 巤 as phonetic component.' 巤 has the same pronunciation as above).
