頑嚚（上五關反廣雅云頑鈍也說文摑頭也從頁元聲也下語斤反左氏傳曰心不則德義之經曰頑口不道忠信之言曰嚚蒼頡篇云嚚惡也說文從㗊臣聲也㮯音胡本反㗊音滓立反也）。

頑嚚 (The upper character is pronounced 五 + 關 fanqie. The Guangya says: '頑 means dull.' The Shuowen says: 'A thick head; it derives from 頁 with 元 as phonetic.' The lower character is pronounced 語 + 斤 fanqie. The Zuozhuan says: 'When the mind does not adhere to the standards of virtue and righteousness, it is called 頑; when the mouth does not speak words of loyalty and trustworthiness, it is called 嚚.' The Cangjie pian says: '嚚 means evil.' The Shuowen says: 'It derives from 㗊 with 臣 as phonetic.' 㮯 is pronounced 胡 + 本 fanqie; 㗊 is pronounced 滓 + 立 fanqie).
