誹謗（上非味反下補浪反大戴禮云立誹謗之木設諫諍之鼓應邵注漢書云橋樑邊板所以書政治之𠍴失也杜注左傳云謗詛也以言呪詛人也說文二字互相訓謗毀也言皆形聲字也）。

誹謗 (The upper character is pronounced 非 + 味 fanqie; the lower character is pronounced 補 + 浪 fanqie. The Da Dai Liji says: 'Erecting the slander-wood and setting up the drum of remonstrance.' Ying Shao's commentary on the Hanshu says: 'Wooden boards beside bridges used to write down the errors and defects of governance.' Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: '謗 means to curse, using words to curse people.' The Shuowen glosses both characters reciprocally: '謗 means to defame.' Both derive from 言 as phono-semantic characters).
