厲聲（力滯反杜注左傳云厲猛也王逸注楚辭云厲烈也爾雅厲作也廣雅高也說文從厂萬聲厂音罕經文從广作癘非也）。

A stern voice (厲聲: *li-zhi* fanqie; Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuo Zhuan* says: *li* means fierce; Wang Yi's commentary on the *Chuci* says: *li* means harsh; the *Erya* says: *li* means to raise; the *Guangya* says: high; the *Shuowen jiezi* says it derives from 厂 with 萬 as phonetic; 厂 is pronounced *han*; the sūtra text writes it with 广 as 癘, which is incorrect).
