峻險（上荀俊反孔注尚書云峻高大貌也郭注爾雅云峻長也說文作峻云高險貌也從山陖聲字書作𡺲亦作陖埈今經作峻古今正字云𡺲或省也夋音七荀反下脇儼反周易云地險山川丘陵也顧野王云險猶阻也說文險難也從𨸏僉聲經本從山作嶮非也）。

Steep and perilous (峻險: upper character is *xun-jun* fanqie; Kong [Anguo]'s commentary on the *Shangshu* says: *jun* is the appearance of being lofty and great; Guo [Pu]'s commentary on the *Erya* says: *jun* means tall; the *Shuowen jiezi* writes 峻 and says: the appearance of being lofty and perilous; it derives from 山 with 陖 as phonetic; the character dictionaries write 𡺲, and also 陖 or 埈; now the sūtra writes 峻; the *Gujin zhengzi* says 𡺲 is sometimes abbreviated; 夋 is pronounced *qi-xun* fanqie; lower character is *xie-yan* fanqie; the *Zhouyi* says: earthly peril refers to mountains, rivers, and hillocks; Gu Yewang says: *xian* is like an obstruction; the *Shuowen jiezi* says: *xian* means difficult; it derives from 𨸏 with 僉 as phonetic; the sūtra text writes it with 山 as 嶮, which is incorrect).
