瀚海（上寒幹反案括地志云小海名也在流砂大磧西北同羅突屈西北數百里來南去長安五千三百里秦築長城經此海南東西長亘匈奴中有數河水流入此海獨邏河悉陵河金河等泣流入焉北庭有瀚海鎮取此為名也）。

Gobi Ocean (瀚海: upper character is *han-gan* fanqie; according to the *Kuodi zhi*, it is the name of a small sea, located northwest of the shifting sands and great wasteland, several hundred li northwest of the Tongluo and Tujue, and five thousand three hundred li south to Chang'an; the Great Wall built by the Qin passed this sea; it stretches long from south to north and east to west; within the Xiongnu territory, several rivers flow into this sea, such as the Duluo River, Xiling River, and Jin River; Hanhai Garrison in the Northern Protectorate takes its name from this).
