夫人采女（采擇所得之女謂之采女風俗通曰六宮采女凡數千人天子遣掖庭丞相率於鄉中閱視童女年十三以上二十以下長壯皎潔有法相者因載入宮故謂之采女也夫人者案因夫以成人故曰夫人也）。

Consorts and selected maidens (*furen cainü*; women obtained through selection are called selected maidens; the *Fengsu Tong* states: "The selected maidens of the six imperial palaces numbered several thousand in total; the Son of Heaven sent the palace assistant minister to lead inspections among the villages for maidens aged thirteen to nineteen who were grown, fair, and possessed auspicious signs, and transported them into the palace; hence they are called selected maidens." As for *furen*, inquiry shows that because she completes her standing relying on her husband (*fu*), she is called *furen*).
