Kingdom of Kaśmīra (formerly named the Kingdom of Jibin. Here translated as “Which person?” In the past, before this kingdom was founded, the land had a great nāga pond that people did not dare approach. Later, an arhat saw that its landscape was excellent and suitable for people to reside in, so he begged the nāga for ground enough for a single knee. At that time, the nāga granted it. The arhat then transformed his body, gradually growing larger, and his knee gradually filled the nāga pond. Keeping his word, the nāga departed. The arhat then used his supernormal power to dry up the water, allowing the common people to build houses within it. Everyone said: “Were it not for our holy master, which person could have entered this place?” Hence, based on these words, the name was established. This kingdom lies in the territory of Northern India, bordering to the north of the kingdom of Gandhāra).
