盜塔寺物（塔具云窣堵波謂置佛舍利處也寺名依梵本中呼為鞞訶羅此云遊謂眾生共遊止之所也三蒼曰寺館舍也館舍與遊義稱相近耳又風俗通曰寺司也匡之有法度者也今諸侯所止皆曰寺也釋名曰寺嗣也治事者相繼嗣於內也今若以義立名則佛弟子助佛楊化住持正法同後三說若直據梵本敵對而翻則如初釋也）。

"Stealing the property of stūpas and vihāras" (As for 塔 [stūpa], in full it is stūpa, referring to the place where the Buddha's relics are enshrined. As for 寺 [vihāra], according to the Sanskrit text it is called vihāra, here translated as "roaming/dwelling," referring to a place where sentient beings roam and dwell together. The Sancang states: "寺 means a lodge/guesthouse." Lodges and vihāras are close in meaning. Furthermore, the Fengsu tong states: "寺 means office [司]; that which regulates with laws and rules. Nowadays, the dwellings of feudal lords are all called 寺." The Shiming states: "寺 means succession [嗣]; where administrative affairs are carried on in succession within." If now named according to meaning, Buddhist disciples aiding the Buddha to propagate transformation and maintain the correct Dharma agree with the latter three explanations; if directly translated strictly according to the Sanskrit text, it is as given in the first explanation).
