Fastened rafters (the first character is *bi* + *mian* [biān]. Liu Zhao says: "*Bian* means to align and connect." The Cangjie pian says: "*Bian* means to weave." The Shuowen says: "To arrange bamboo slips in sequence; categorized under 'silk' [糸] with *bian* [扁] phonetic." *Bian* [扁] is pronounced *bian* + *mian* [biǎn]. The second character is *zhi* + *yuan* [chuán]. The Kaosheng says: "Rafters." The Gujin zhengzi gives it under 'wood' [木] with *tuan* [𮙥] phonetic. *Tuan* [𮙥] is pronounced *tu* + *huan* [tuàn]).
