Xiedie 躞蹀 (The first character has the fanqie xian + ye [xiè]; the second has the fanqie tian + ye [dié]. The Kaosheng says: 'Xiedie is the appearance of taking small steps.' Xu Shuzhong [Xu Shen], commenting on Huainan[zi], says: 'Die means to tread.' Gu Yewang says: 'It means slow, fine steps.' The Gujin zhengzi states: 'Die takes "foot" [足] and yè [枼] as phonetic.' Xie is sometimes written with xie 燮; die is sometimes written with die 䠟).
