Guide forward (誘進): The upper character has the fanqie *yóu* + *jiǔ* (誘). The *Kaosheng* says: 'To teach; to lead.' The *Yunquan* says: 'To persuade and encourage one another.' The *Gu-jin zhengzi* says: 'To guide.' The *Shuowen [jiezi]* writes it as 羑, meaning 'to advance toward goodness; derived from 羊 with 久 as phonetic.'
