彗星（隨銳反乙已占云光芒索索然如掃帚孛孛然形如粉絮皆逆亂凶孛之氣也左傳云妖星也所以除舊布新之象也或從竹作篲亦通從甡從又甡音詵）。

彗星 (*suìxīng*, comet; [the first character has] the fanqie 隨銳 [*suí* + *ruì*]. The *Yisi zhan* says: "Its rays are trailing and tangled like a broom, exploding forth like powdered floss; these are all vapors of rebellion, calamity, and disorder." The *Zuo zhuan* says: "It is an ominous star, representing the token of sweeping away the old and establishing the new." It is also written with the bamboo radical as 篲, which is likewise permissible. It is composed of 甡 and 又; 甡 is pronounced *shēn*).
