潛伏（潛字已見序中釋下輔腹反賈注國語伏隱也廣雅藏也說文伺也犬伺人則故從人從犬會意字）。

潛伏 (Lurking and hiding: The character 潛 has already been explained in the preface. The lower character has the fanqie 輔腹 [fú]. Jia's commentary on the Guoyu says: '伏 means hidden.' The Guangya says: 'To conceal.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To spy; a dog waiting to ambush someone; hence it is derived from 人 [person] and 犬 [dog], an associative compound').
