睡眠（上垂偽反集訓云坐寐也字書云睡熟也說文從目垂聲也下莫邊反王逸注楚辭云眠臥也說文作[目*(宜/八)]音眠也聲目𡨋聲也古今正字作眠目𡨋也從目民聲也）。

睡眠 (sleep and drowsiness; the former is chui/wei fan; Jixun says: 'Sitting and sleeping'; character dictionaries say: 'Sleeping soundly'; Shuowen jiezi says: 'Composed of 目 with 垂 phonetic'; the latter is mo/bian fan; Wang Yi's commentary on the Elegies of Chu says: '眠 means lying down'; Shuowen jiezi writes it as [目*(宜/八)], pronounced mian, with eyes closed; Gujin zhengzi writes it as 眠, eyes closed, composed of 目 with 民 phonetic).
