猶豫（上翼州反下餘據反𦒱聲云猶豫不定之辭集訓云心疑惑也禮記曰卜筮所以決嫌疑定猶豫也方言曰隴西謂犬曰猶故猶字從犬酋聲賈注國語云豫獸名也形如象說文從象予聲也）。

猶豫 (hesitation; the former is yi/zhou fan; the latter is yu/ju fan; Qiesheng says: '猶豫 is a term for being unsettled'; Jixun says: 'The mind is doubtful'; the Book of Rites says: 'Divination by turtle shell and milfoil stalks is used to resolve suspicions and settle hesitations'; Fangyan says: 'Longxi calls a dog a 猶; hence the character 猶 has radical 犬 with 酋 phonetic'; Jia's commentary on Guoyu says: '豫 is the name of a beast shaped like an elephant'; Shuowen jiezi says: 'Composed of 象 with 予 phonetic').
