[Looking sideways with corners of the eyes] (The second character has the fanqie of 來 [l-] and 代 [-âi]: the *Cangjiepian* says, "'Lài' (睞) means looking inward." The *Shuowen jiezi* says, "The pupil of the eye is not straight." It is formed with the "eye" (目) radical and the "lái" (來) phonetic).
