矛矟（上母侯反考聲云酋矛戈類也說文矛長二丈象形字經作牟非經義也誤下音朔廣雅云矟亦矛也古今正字云矟長八尺也從矛肖聲也）。

[Spears and lances] (The first character has the fanqie of 母 [m-] and 侯 [-əu]: the *Kaosheng* says, "Long spears, of the halberd class." The *Shuowen jiezi* says, "A 'máo' (矛) is two zhang in length; it is a pictographic character." The sūtra writing it as 牟 does not accord with the sūtra's meaning and is an error. The second character is pronounced 朔 [ʂak]: the *Guangya* says, "A 'shuò' (矟) is also a spear." The *Gujin zhengzi* says, "A 'shuò' is eight chi in length. It is formed from 'spear' (矛) and the 'xiāo' (肖) phonetic").
