稻稈（下干旱反考聲云禾黍莖也杜注左傳云稈秉把也稈槀也廣雅稻穰謂之稈也說文從禾旱聲從艸作芉非也）。

Daogan 稻稈 (the second syllable is read with the fanqie 干旱. The Kaosheng says: "The stalks of grain and millet." Du's commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "稈 refers to a bundle grasped in the hand; 稈 means dry stalks." The Guangya says: "Rice straw is called 稈." The Shuowen says: "It is formed from 禾 [grain] with 旱 as the phonetic." Writing it with 艸 as 芉 is incorrect).
