貓貍（上夘包反顧野王云似虎而小人家所畜養獸也用令捕鼠者下里知反顧野王云似虎而小貓之類野獸好偷人家鷄食之說文伏獸也晝伏而夜行貓貍二字並從豸形聲字也）。

Wildcats and leopards (貓貍: the first character has the fanqie [m]au + [p]au. Gu Yewang says: "Resembles a tiger but is small, a beast raised by households used to catch mice." The second character has the fanqie [l]i + [ʈ]i. Gu Yewang says: "Resembles a tiger but is small, of the cat class, a wild beast that likes to steal and eat people's chickens." The Shuowen jiezi says: "A crouching beast; it crouches by day and prowls by night. Both 貓 and 貍 are categorized under 豸, being phono-semantic characters").
