闌楯（洛寒反廣雅云闌牢也說文門遮也從門東聲經文從木作欄非也下脣閏反漢書音義楯亦闌也說文檻也從木盾聲盾音時尹反）。

Balustrades and railings (闌楯: the upper character [闌] has the fanqie phonetic [lan] (洛寒反). The Guangya states: "闌 means a pen/enclosure." The Shuowen jiezi states: "A door screen; derived from the door radical (門) with the phonetic marker [dong] (東)." In the text of the scripture, writing it with the wood radical as 欄 is incorrect. The lower character [楯] has the fanqie phonetic [shun] (脣閏反). The Hanshu yinyi states: "楯 is also a railing." The Shuowen jiezi states: "A railing; derived from the wood radical (木) with the phonetic marker [dun] (盾); 盾 has the fanqie phonetic [yin] (時尹反)").
