Beat the elder (拍長者) (The first character has the fanqie [po] + bai. The Boya says: “Pai (拍) means to strike (擊).” The Shuowen says: “Pai means to slap (拊); it is formed from the ‘hand’ classifier and the phonetic bai (白).” Fu (拊) has the fanqie fu + fu. Other editions of the sūtra have 砶, which is incorrect).
