老叜（下溲厚反方言云叜老也廣雅云父又東齊魯衛之間凡尊老謂之叜也說文從又灾聲字又作𠊯俗或作叟也經文作瘦非此義）。

Old man (老叜) (The second character has the fanqie sou + hou. The Fangyan says: “Sou (叜) means old.” The Guangya says: “Sou also means father; in the region between Eastern Qi, Lu, and Wei, all respected elders are called sou.” The Shuowen says: “It is formed from the ‘hand’ classifier and the phonetic zai (灾).” The character is also written 𠊯, or popularly 叟. In the sūtra text it is written 瘦 [emaciated], which is not the meaning here).
