市井（子郢也周禮九夫為井方一里也白虎通曰因井為市故曰市井說文云八家一井象構幹形象壅形也）。

Shìjǐng (市井, marketplace / town wells) (zǐ + yǐng [jǐng] [fanqie]. The Rites of Zhou says: 'Nine husbandmen form a jǐng (well-field), one li square.' The Baihu tong says: 'Because markets were formed around wells, they are called shìjǐng.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Eight households share one well; it depicts the framework and shape of the well-head, depicting the embanked structure.').
